Coroner's Finding: FORGIONE Maria Eufemia

Maria Eufemia Forgione, aged 89, died of multi-organ failure secondary to urinary sepsis at a nursing home. She had longstanding paranoid schizophrenia and was subject to a guardianship order. This inquest was mandatory because her death occurred while under a guardianship detention order. In May 2015, she developed chest and urinary tract infections and was managed with antibiotics initially, then transitioned to palliative care only following discussions with family and medical staff. The coroner found her detention lawful and the care provided appropriate. No clinical errors or preventability issues were identified.
