Finding into death of John Stuart Knox

John Stuart Knox, aged 76, died from pancreatic cancer while in custody at Port Phillip Prison. He had been diagnosed with unresectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma in September 2020 and was receiving palliative care. He was found unresponsive in his bed and pronounced deceased at 10:37am on 4 October 2021. Post-mortem examination confirmed pancreatic cancer as the cause of death. Reviews by Justice Assurance Review Office and Justice Health determined that custodial management and healthcare provision met required standards and were appropriate. The death was from natural causes.
