Inquest into the death of Daniel Shane VELLA

Daniel Shane Vella, a 40-year-old tattoo artist, was fatally shot during a robbery at Pretty in Ink tattoo parlour in West Ryde, NSW on 26 March 2011. A single gunshot wound traversed his left shoulder, chest and abdomen, causing massive internal injuries including damage to the left lung, diaphragm, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, liver and splenic vein. Despite arriving at Royal North Shore Hospital alive and conscious, he died shortly after arrival. The homicide remains unsolved after extensive police investigation. This case highlights the unpredictable nature of violent crime in community settings and the challenges of forensic investigation when perpetrators are well-disguised and leave minimal evidence. No clinical or medical management issues were identified.
