Finding into death of John Henry Hamilton

John Henry Hamilton, a 67-year-old man with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, epilepsy and multiple comorbidities, died from metastatic gastric cancer in a palliative care unit. He was diagnosed with metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma in June 2023 and, after expressing he did not wish surgery, was managed conservatively with palliative goals of care. He was admitted to the Wantirna Health Supportive and Palliative Care Unit on 31 July 2023 and died peacefully on 2 August 2023. The death was from natural causes and the patient's wishes regarding treatment were respected. No clinical errors or preventable factors were identified in the management of his terminal illness.
