Coroner's Finding: Carroll, Thomas Brian

Brian Thomas Carroll, aged 81, died from traumatic brain injury sustained in a single-vehicle motor vehicle crash. He was travelling at approximately 125 km/h in an 80 km/h zone when he failed to negotiate a roundabout and was ejected from his vehicle because he was not wearing a seatbelt. He died 5 days later in hospital. Post-operative mental health changes (panic attacks, delusions) following recent benign oral mass removal may have contributed to his driving behaviour. Diazepam and paracetamol were present but not causative. The death was not medically preventable; it resulted from a traffic accident. Clinical relevance: post-operative psychiatric complications require monitoring and appropriate management to prevent safety-critical decisions.
