Finding into death of Unknown Remains Comprising Human Cranium

Unknown human remains comprising a female cranium of Aboriginal ancestry were examined by a forensic anthropologist. The cranium showed evidence of trauma and metabolic disease but was determined to be archaeological rather than forensic in significance, likely over 100 years old. No cause of death could be determined. The remains were released to Museum Victoria under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. This case highlights the importance of proper handling and identification of human remains and appropriate consultation with forensic specialists.
