Seth Luhrs, 24, died from multiple injuries sustained in a fall from a seventh-floor hotel balcony on 1 April 2018, whilst under the influence of LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) and MDMA. Seth had ingested more than a low-to-moderate dose of LSD and MDMA several hours before the incident. At approximately 1:30am, whilst hallucinating and experiencing gross intoxication, he fell from the balcony of his hotel room. The exact mechanism of the fall—whether dive, forward rotation, or folding over the railing—could not be determined, but biomechanical analysis excluded an active jump and showed a horizontal velocity consistent with forward motion alone. The fall was not assisted or caused by any other person. No defect in the balcony structure contributed to the death. The coroner found the death to be a tragic accidental fall occurring during a period of drug-induced psychosis or hallucination. This case highlights the dangers of potent illicit drugs and how recreational drug use can lead to fatal outcomes in young people.
