Finding into death of Kevin Parkhill

Kevin Parkhill, a 65-year-old NDIS participant with type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease and congestive cardiac failure, developed a Stage IV heel wound while in supported accommodation. Despite nursing staff advice and his GP's strong recommendation following identification of low platelets and MRSA infection, he initially declined hospitalisation. He was eventually admitted to Box Hill Hospital on 5 May 2023 with a diabetic leg infection and subsequently developed multiple organ failure. He elected to cease active treatment and received palliative care, dying on 2 June 2023. The coroner found no evidence of inadequate clinical management by either the disability support providers or hospital staff that contributed to his death.
