An 89-year-old man with ischaemic heart disease, COPD, dementia, and Korsakoff syndrome died at a nursing home from cardiorespiratory failure with aspiration pneumonia. He was found on the bathroom floor after a fall and pronounced dead shortly after. He had hypoxia documented from 6 June and was on oxygen therapy. The coroner found his care at the nursing home and by his general practitioner was appropriate. No clinical errors or preventable factors were identified. The death resulted from the natural progression of multiple chronic conditions in an elderly resident with significant cognitive and physical decline.
