Carmel Nettlefold, aged 71, was violently pushed to the ground by Robert Frederick Bowden at New Town, Hobart on 4 October 2014. She struck her head and sustained a traumatic closed head injury with intracranial bleeding. She was transported to Royal Hobart Hospital where she received emergency care and neurosurgical assessment, but her condition deteriorated and she died four days later on 8 October 2014. The coroner found her death resulted directly from the traumatic head injury. Bowden was apprehended, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, and received an eight-year sentence. The coroner made no adverse findings regarding clinical care.
