Coroner's Finding: DUNBAR Brian Samuel

Brian Samuel Dunbar, aged 75, died from pulmonary thromboembolus secondary to left calf deep vein thrombosis, complicated by Influenza A infection and Parkinson's disease. He was under an Inpatient Treatment Order (ITO) at Repatriation General Hospital when he collapsed suddenly after physiotherapy. The coroner found his detention was lawful and treatment appropriate. The deep vein thrombosis origin could not be identified, though reduced mobility from Parkinson's disease and inflammatory effects of influenza may have contributed. The coroner concluded the death could not have been prevented and made no recommendations, finding the Mental Health Act detention did not contribute to death.
