Finding into death of Sarah Anne Swallow

Sarah Anne Swallow, a 36-year-old woman with Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), died from peripheral T-cell lymphoma in September 2024. She was diagnosed with this aggressive cancer in April 2024 and commenced on chemotherapy, which proved ineffective and was ceased in June 2024. Palliative care was subsequently agreed as the most appropriate management. Sarah moved in with her parents and was supported by a specialist palliative care team at Cabrini Home. She died peacefully at home. The coroner found no evidence of any causal connection between her disability support care and her death. The death resulted from natural causes with no preventable factors identified. This case highlights the importance of appropriate end-of-life planning and supportive care for individuals with intellectual disability and serious illness.
