A 68-year-old woman with mobility limitations from congenital hip dysplasia was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing a pedestrian crossing. The driver failed to exercise proper caution when turning left at the intersection, resulting in fatal multiple injuries including hepatic rupture, haemopneumothoraces, and subarachnoid haemorrhage. The driver was convicted of careless driving and failure to give way at a pedestrian crossing. This case highlights the importance of driver vigilance at pedestrian crossings, particularly regarding vulnerable pedestrians with mobility impairments. No medical management issues were identified; paramedics provided appropriate resuscitation efforts. The coroner recommended improved pedestrian safety measures including signage, speed limit reductions, and additional traffic controls at the intersection.
