Finding into death of FVH

FVH, aged 43, died from aspiration of a food bolus while dining at a restaurant on 1 November 2025. FVH had Astrom Syndrome, a lifelong condition causing deafness and blindness from retinitis pigmentosa, as well as insulin resistance, obsessive compulsive disorder, and anxiety. He required ongoing parental care and lived with his parents. During a family celebration at a restaurant in Epping, his father cut and prepared a piece of chicken for him, as was his usual practice. While eating, FVH choked and became unresponsive. Emergency services were called and paramedics arrived at approximately 11:00 pm and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced deceased at 11:09 pm. Forensic examination confirmed aspiration of the food bolus as the cause of death. The coroner found that FVH's death was not preventable and that his care had been reasonable and appropriate.
