Finding into death of Brian Leslie Aldridge

Brian Leslie Aldridge, a 57-year-old man with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability and Alzheimer's dementia, died of natural causes in specialist disability accommodation. He experienced declining health from September 2022 onwards, with particular difficulty swallowing and progressive weight loss. He was admitted to hospital in March-April 2024 for constipation management, after which his condition deteriorated further. Palliative care was re-engaged in April 2024. The coroner found that care provided by his accommodation provider (Home@Scope) and clinicians, including palliative care services, was appropriate and not contributory to his death. The coroner specifically noted staff were 'caring and dedicated' and care was 'above and beyond'. No preventability issues or care deficiencies were identified.
