Finding into death of Earl Mooring

Earl Neil Mooring disappeared in October 2000 and was found dead in December 2004 near Goulburn, NSW. He was last seen travelling to his ex-girlfriend's home in Whittington, Victoria. Police suspected he was lured there, assaulted, tortured to reveal the location of cash savings believed hidden at his home, and subsequently killed. His body was conveyed to NSW and dumped in bush. Forensic examination revealed extensive blunt force injuries to skull and chest consistent with multiple blows. Identity was confirmed through dental records, DNA analysis, and anthropological assessment. Stevan Utah was charged with murder but the charge was withdrawn. Ms Cheryle Lane was convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice. Despite extensive police investigation over 11 years, no person has been convicted of the killing.
