Kerry Lyn Michael, 44, died from blunt force head injuries sustained during a homicidal attack by her husband Robin Michael on Mount Roland, Tasmania on 11 February 2015. Mr Michael struck his wife between 3 and 8 times with rocks, causing unsurvivable injuries including a shattered skull base and massive brain stem damage. The attack occurred in the context of Mr Michael's extreme jealousy and controlling behaviour, stemming from unfounded suspicions of an affair. Mrs Michael had documented feeling 'trapped' in the relationship. This case highlights the dangers of intimate partner violence and the importance of recognising controlling and possessive behaviour patterns in relationships. Mr Michael subsequently attempted suicide by insulin overdose and later died by suicide in prison while awaiting trial.
