Justin Dance, a 47-year-old man with intellectual disability, epilepsy, and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, died of complications of his leukaemia while residing in supported disability accommodation. He had a longstanding complex medical history including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, non-verbal status, and immobility. His family chose conservative management aligned with his Advanced Care Plan, which specified no hospital admission or resuscitation. In October 2018 he developed pneumonia but unexpectedly survived. He was placed in palliative care and died peacefully with support workers present. The coroner found no issues with his care or management. This case illustrates appropriate end-of-life planning, family-centred decision-making respecting quality of life, and dignified care in supported residential settings for people with severe disabilities.
