Jason Causon, a 46-year-old man in custody, collapsed while exercising due to a ruptured anterior communicating cerebral artery aneurysm. He received prompt initial resuscitation by correctional and health staff, was rapidly transferred to Alfred Hospital, and underwent emergency aneurysm repair surgery. Despite surgical intervention and intensive care management including maximum medical intervention for elevated intracranial pressure, his condition proved irretrievable. The coroner found his management appropriate, with proper staff response and adequate healthcare delivery while in custody. His death resulted from natural causes—complications of the aneurysm itself rather than any failure in clinical care or custody management.
