A 55-year-old man on remand was found confused and disoriented upon reception to correctional custody on 16 September 2014. He was appropriately transferred to hospital where MRI imaging revealed a large right frontal brain tumour with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. He underwent uncomplicated craniotomy and tumour resection on 25 September 2014. Despite surgery, his condition deteriorated and he died on 5 October 2014. Clinical review found no issues with his medical care. The tumour was advanced at presentation; earlier identification would not have changed the outcome. Medical care provided met community standards. No preventable factors were identified.
