A 16-year-old experienced off-road motorcycle rider died from blunt force trauma sustained in a crash on 15 October 2016. While riding his mechanically sound motorcycle at high speed on a gravel road near a family property, he lost control and struck a tree. He sustained fatal injuries including basal skull fracture, subarachnoid haemorrhage, and spinal fractures. Forensic analysis suggested possible recent cannabis use, which may have impaired coordination and judgment. The coroner determined this was a tragic accident with no preventable factors, as the motorcycle was roadworthy, the rider wore appropriate safety equipment, and weather conditions were not contributory.
