Finding into death of Stanley Brian Taylor

Stanley Taylor, a 79-year-old man serving life imprisonment, died from acute bronchitis on a background of cardiomegaly with coronary artery disease. He presented to St Vincent's Hospital with chest pain and shortness of breath, was found to have pneumonia on chest X-ray, and deteriorated suddenly with new ST elevation on ECG. A not-for-resuscitation order was in place based on his poor prognosis and expressed wishes. The Office of Correctional Services Review and Justice Health both found healthcare management was appropriate and in keeping with their quality frameworks. No issues or concerns regarding health management were identified. The death resulted from natural causes in the context of advanced cardiac disease and acute infection.
