Coroner's Finding: Streets, Steven

40y · Male·lower limb and chest injuries sustained in motor vehicle collision, including multiple compound fractures of the right leg, left pneumothorax, and bilateral anterior upper rib fractures

Steven George Streets, a 40-year-old motorcycle rider, died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision in Devonport, Tasmania. The driver of the other vehicle was inattentive and had consumed alcohol; Mr Streets had traces of THC in his body. The fatal injuries included multiple compound fractures of the right leg, left pneumothorax, and bilateral anterior upper rib fractures. Significantly, autopsy findings revealed cardiomegaly with critical narrowing of the left anterior descending and right coronary arteries, which were contributing factors. This case highlights that pre-existing coronary artery disease may have compromised Mr Streets' ability to survive the trauma. The coroner found no mechanical, weather, road condition, or speed factors contributed to the crash.
