Finding into death of Serafina Pirrottina

A 57-year-old woman with longstanding muscular dystrophy and newly diagnosed cardiomyopathy died from complications of her underlying condition. She became acutely unwell overnight at her residential support facility with respiratory distress and required emergency transfer to hospital. Although paramedics did not transport her mechanical ventilators to hospital as per established protocol, clinical evidence indicated this did not materially affect her outcome. Her management at the residential facility, by paramedics, and in the emergency department was deemed reasonable and appropriate. The death was not preventable; it resulted from the combined effects of cardiac failure, infection, and the progressive nature of her neuromuscular condition. The coroner found no material failures in clinical care.
