Finding into death of Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor, aged 54, with Sjogren Larsson syndrome and stage IV peripheral T-cell lymphoma, was admitted to palliative care at Austin Hospital in February 2011. He had been diagnosed with advanced lymphoma in November 2010 but was deemed unsuitable for aggressive chemotherapy or radiotherapy due to significant comorbidities. Following admission on 5 February, he continued to deteriorate. In consultation with the Office of the Public Advocate, the medical team determined palliative care was appropriate. He died on 9 February 2011. Autopsy revealed advanced lymphoma with extensive nodal involvement and organ involvement, plus focal aspiration pneumonia and acute lung injury. The coroner found his care and management were within reasonable health care practice parameters with no evidence of deficiency.
