This case involved the discovery of 426 human bone fragments at Rickets Point Marine Sanctuary in Victoria in January 2018. Forensic analysis confirmed the remains were from a single individual, a female of Caucasian descent, likely over 20 years old. The skeletal remains showed evidence of fire exposure prior to being placed in the ocean, with fragmentation occurring before submersion. Despite exhaustive investigations including Victoria Police inquiries, forensic anthropological analysis, dental examination, and mitochondrial DNA testing, the identity of the deceased and cause of death could not be established.
