Coroner's Finding: Esposito, Pasquale

Pasquale Esposito, age 76, died in custody at Lyell McEwin Hospital from combined acute myocardial infarction and urosepsis. He had extensive cardiac history including prior MI, CABG, COPD, and recent stent placement. On 7 February 2020, he presented with chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, and elevated inflammatory markers suggesting infection precipitating cardiac decompensation. Despite initial improvement, he deteriorated with sepsis, acute kidney injury, pulmonary oedema, and troponin >1000. He suffered two cardiac arrests on 9-10 February; CPR was unsuccessful. The coroner found no concerns regarding his care or custody circumstances, and made no recommendations.
