Finding into death of Sharon Ann Looby

Sharon Ann Looby, a 49-year-old woman with Down's syndrome, presented with symptoms of malaise, sweats, cough and bloating. Her general practitioner arranged blood tests which revealed renal impairment and liver inflammation on 17 April 2009. She was appropriately admitted to hospital for further assessment. Despite ICU admission and multi-organ supportive therapy, she developed pneumonia and multi-organ failure, dying on 26 April 2009. The coroner found no issues relating to medical management or care provided. The death was from natural causes, with appropriate clinical decision-making and timely hospital referral documented throughout.
