Coroner's Finding: HODSON Lawrence John

Lawrence John Hodson, a 63-year-old man detained in custody at Glenside Campus under the Criminal Law Consolidation Act, died from complications of lung cancer. He had been diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and was receiving coordinated care from oncologists, respiratory specialists, and psychiatrists. In July 2005, he developed pneumonia secondary to left lung collapse but recovered. On 30 August 2005, he experienced acute dyspnea while on the ward, was given nebulised Ventolin by nursing staff, and rapidly deteriorated. The on-call doctor found him unresponsive with absent vital signs within 20 minutes of symptom onset. The coroner found his care and treatment to be appropriate, diligent, and commendable, with no deficiencies disclosed. No clinical errors or preventable factors were identified.
