Inquest into the death of Thomas John KEDWELL

Thomas Kedwell, aged 66, died in custody at Prince of Wales Hospital from respiratory infection secondary to metastatic carcinoma. He had undergone laryngectomy and tracheostomy for throat cancer in 2017, and presented with extensive nodal involvement discovered on imaging in December 2018. He was receiving palliative care and underwent appropriate investigation and treatment throughout his hospital admission. An operation scheduled for 15 February was cancelled on the morning due to his deteriorating condition. He died that morning after receiving morphine for dyspnoea. The coroner found his care and treatment were appropriate with no identified deficiencies in clinical management.
