Coroner's Finding: Pashen, Dennis Robert

Dr P., a 74-year-old medical practitioner, died on 23 November 2023 during a recreational sailing trip to South Bruny Island, Tasmania. While retrieving an unsecured dinghy that had drifted away from Kingfisher Beach, he entered water at 15.3°C and experienced difficulties. Found deceased approximately 500m from his entry point, the coroner determined he died from drowning with hypothermia and exercise-induced exhaustion as contributing factors. An acute coronary event could not be excluded. A rescue helicopter arrived within 40 minutes in response to an emergency call. No systemic failures or preventable clinical factors were identified, and no recommendations for future prevention were made.
