A 37-year-old man with depression, suicidal ideation, and antisocial personality disorder died from hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy following hanging while on home detention bail. He had been arrested following a domestic violence incident and received appropriate psychiatric assessment and antidepressant treatment at James Nash House before discharge. A self-harm notification was issued to correctional services. The coroner found the psychiatric care appropriate and noted Dr B.'s opinion that given the patient's personality structure and difficulty engaging with therapeutic relationships, little could have prevented the outcome. The case highlights the challenge of managing suicide risk in individuals with antisocial personality traits who are reluctant to engage with mental health services despite their documented suicidal ideation.
