Coroner's Finding: GLENCROSS Kenneth William

Kenneth William Glencross, an 80-year-old prisoner, died of metastatic lung cancer at Mary Potter Hospice on 8 June 2001 while on conditional leave from prison. He was diagnosed with end-stage metastatic lung cancer in March 2001 after presenting with persistent cough. He declined active treatment and investigations, accepting only palliative care. Following deterioration, he was appropriately transferred to a specialist hospice on 23 May 2001 for terminal care. Clinical management was appropriate throughout, with regular medical and nursing assessment, adequate pain relief, and respect for the patient's wishes regarding treatment. The death was a natural consequence of advanced malignancy. The coroner found no deficiencies in care and made no recommendations.
