Kerry-Ann Long, a 42-year-old woman in custody at Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre, collapsed suddenly on 3 February 2009 from rupture of a previously undiagnosed anterior communicating artery aneurysm causing subarachnoid haemorrhage. She received appropriate emergency medical care with timely Code Blue response and resuscitation by nursing staff, followed by paramedic transport and ICU management. An independent medical review confirmed adequate health assessment on reception to custody, appropriate medication provision, and timely emergency response. Death was by natural causes from a spontaneously ruptured aneurysm with no prior symptoms or clinical indicators. No preventable factors were identified.
