A 22-year-old woman died from multiple blunt trauma injuries following a high-speed motor vehicle crash. She was travelling at 174 km/h in a 90 km/h zone on the Midland Highway when she lost control, crossed lanes, and struck a rock face. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Toxicology revealed she was affected by methamphetamine, cannabis, and prescription pain medications from recent spinal surgery, all of which significantly impaired her driving ability. She may also have been distracted by mobile phone use. This was not a medical case requiring clinical intervention but rather a preventable road trauma death caused by reckless driving while drug-impaired. The coroner noted this represents avoidable loss of life despite public awareness campaigns.
