Inquest Into The Death Of Mohammad Sarowar Kawsir Rony, Sultana Razia, Mohammad Shahidullah

Unknown·Multiple injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. For Mohammad Shahidullah, Diabetes Mellitus with Hyperglycaemia contributed to the fatal sequence of events.

This is a road traffic accident involving a red Toyota Yaris driven by Anwar Jahid that collided head-on with a Toyota HiAce on John Gorton Drive, Whitlam, ACT on 16 October 2022. Three passengers—Mohammad Shahidullah, Sultana Razia, and Mohammad Sarowar Kawsir Rony—died from multiple traumatic injuries. The driver sustained severe traumatic brain injury. Mr Shahidullah suffered a hyperglycaemic episode (high blood glucose from Type 1 diabetes) while in the car. In panic to reach hospital, Mr Jahid drove at 150km/h in a 60km/h zone, lost control, and crossed into the oncoming HiAce. The other driver was blameless. The coroner found no matter of public safety arose and declined safety recommendations. The DPP declined prosecution, apparently considering the medical emergency context. No preventable clinical or systemic failures were identified.
