A 69-year-old male prisoner at Wolston Correctional Centre suffered acute myocardial infarction due to severe coronary atherosclerosis. He collapsed while standing outside his cell and was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he died despite resuscitation attempts. The autopsy confirmed acute MI with evidence of previous myocardial scarring. Corrective Services and paramedic staff responded promptly and appropriately to the medical emergency. An initial concern about missing medication records was resolved through toxicology analysis confirming recent ingestion of prescribed cardiac medications. The coroner found no preventable factors and concluded the death resulted from natural causes occurring suddenly and unexpectedly.
