Trent Nathan Carter, aged 30, died from complications of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in a motorcycle collision on the M5 Motorway exit on 7 June 2021. Police officers attempted a traffic stop for observed dangerous riding (speeding, unsafe lane changes, weaving). Upon activation of lights and sirens, Trent accelerated and fled; police immediately disengaged to prioritise safety. Trent lost control while exiting, colliding with four vehicles. Toxicology revealed medium-to-high levels of methylamphetamine consistent with regular use, which significantly impaired his judgment, risk assessment, reaction time, and distance perception—contributing factors to both his initial dangerous driving and loss of control. The motorcycle had no mechanical defects. Police actions were appropriate and proportionate.
